Delight Cloth
Core 77 has posted a blog that caught my eye. This one is about Japan's Tsuya Textile Co., in conjunction with the Fukui Engineering Center and how they have developed Delight Cloth.
This is a "light-emitting textile" made from superthin fiber optic strands woven into a sort of tapestry. But while it's light-emitting, it's not light-generating--you need to hook up a 100W-150W halogen to one or both ends of the fabric depending on what effect you want to achieve.
You can even add a color controller and get a variety of colors.
The coolest part about this is that the technology can be integrated into clothing.

The new type of baggage
London Underground | Emotional Baggage, introduces the Crafted Fashion collection from Williams-British Handmade.
Sarah Williams, a student graduating from the M.A. Fashion Artefacts program at the London College of Fashion, conceived the line that features a whimsical and luxurious take on luggage and functional work gear. The collection offers a modern take on classic British style.
Williams believes that good-quality craft depends on curiosity about the material at hand, and she cites three attributes, identified by Richard Sennett in his book “The Craftsman,” in her work: Metamorphosis, Anthropomorphism and Presence.
Lift Hold Roll
Lift Hold Roll is the Perfect Future.
The concept is based around three mechanical products that are essential to the process.
These three objects are a pulley, a clamp, and a caster.
The Future Perfect will provide you with one object of your choosing.
Some clarification on that last bit: "by one object of your choosing," they mean that they will buy you one clamp, one pulley or one caster. For more than that, you'll have to purchase them on your own.
The Future Perfect described this show as a way to discover and show off unknown designers outside their usual network, so don't be shy and send something in!

Not All Artists Are Starving
HAGA (Hofstra's graphic arts club) hosted a networking event on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
The event was a great turn out and I personally learned a lot from the speakers.
One thing that Yvonne Dagger said that I will always remember and keep in mind with every piece of what that I do is: Always document your work.
She made me realize that anything can be lost, stolen, or damaged and it's always good to have it documented with pictures.
All of the speakers inspired me to keep going with my dreams and not to give up and no matter what happens something will come along if you keep fighting for what you believe. Also, not ever client is going to like everything that you do and sometimes you're going to have to give them what they want whether or not you believe that it works or doesn't.
At first listening to the speakers, I questioned myself about whether I made the right decision or not choosing this path but then Amy Odell made a very good point when she said, "I could never see myself doing anything else." I thought about that later that night and realized no matter how hard things may get, I still can't see myself doing anything else either.
Overall a very good turnout and helped me think more about my future.

Interlocking Ring Designs
A series of interlocking rings with no parting lines or joints or links forms many remarkable objects!
As the inventing company Kaynamaile calls it-- "a seamless polycarbonate mesh".
This neat decorative pattern is used at nightclubs in European countries in order to accelerate the look of the atmosphere.
Also it's been used to make: broader, encompassing everything from body armor, aquaculture, water filtration, vehicle drivetrains, conveyor belts, and even artifical ski slopes.
The products are 100% recyclable and made of plastics, rubbers, ceramics, etc.
Chairs and Tables of Bread!!
Spanish industrial designer Enoc Armengol has designed and prototyped "Panpaati," which is a set of edible furniture comprising of two chairs and a side table.
The skinny forms are sculpted from dough and baked into bread. It doesn't appear that the furniture is capable of holding any real weight.
If its real food and edible how can it possibly be furniture and be able to hold real weight?
Enoc Armengol's description says:
"Panpaati. Every piece forms a living, organic, natural structure, which suffers the alterations on having interacted with the environment, humans, animals...This is food! It creates a vital cycle, which it's born, lives, and dies without leaving rest.
100% alive matter. 100% biodegradable.
The work is formed by a set of common furniture, composed by two chairs and one table, these turn automatically into the core of a synergy of shared actions, both internal and external, that modify the initial form constantly.
Somehow this installation can be a clear reflect from the actual society and production process. Fast, and the short-time life of the current, almost ephemeral furniture. Nevertheless, these pieces can also be eaten becoming part of the living process."
